Law conversion course (GDL)

Taking the GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) law conversion course is an easy way to turn your non-law degree into a full law degree. It is also known as the Common Professional Examination (CPE). The GDL is a course that can be taken at almost any university in the country, a quick google will help you to find your nearest institution.

Like after a LLB undergraduate law degree, you will then have to take the Legal Practice Course (LPC) to become a solicitor or the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) to become a Barrister, then under take 2 years of training (otherwise known as a training course or a pupilage for Barristers) in order to become a fully qualified lawyer.

If your aspiration is to become a solicitor, you can expect that most training contracts will pay for the LPC and most of the time, will also pay the course costs for the GDL also. This is also true for aspiring Barristers.
