Criminology ethics

Criminologists, like any other professionals, should act within a code of practice otherwise known as ethics. This is especially important when conducting research and human study. The information below is taken from a britsoccrim pdf.

  1. Criminologists should try to advance knowledge about criminological issues.
  2. You should not or allow others to misrepresent the amount or type of qualifications you have.
  3. As a Criminologist you should keep your training up to date and respect the work of others while giving them due credit.
  4. Always check the reliability of the sources you are using, this is especially important when using the internet.
  5. When researching, make sure you are within the ethical code of conduct-e.g. gaining their permission, explaining what the results will be used for.
  6. Protect the data you collect and do not share with unauthorised persons. Keep in line with the Data Protection Act.
